Immigration
Immigration can bring about changes that you didn’t anticipate and have never encountered before. When things feel unstable, I will help guide you back to the ground and reclaim yourself in order for you to step more fully into your agency. The following are just a few of the experiences we may explore in our work:
Holding the cultural values of two countries, and having family members who are living abroad
Navigating identity and communication across generations and countries of origin, i.e. parents who are first generation immigrants and children who are Americans
Intersectionality and multiculturalism in the context of a monocultural family of origin
Experiencing discrimination, isolation, and overwhelm when settling into the new culture/community
Education and Career
Exploring your next steps with education and/or career are perfect ways to get to know what your values and desires are and what happiness really means to you. This can ultimately lead you to identify and work towards your life goals. In a sense, this process can help you to self-actualize and live more fully.
Moving away for college and leaving family and friends
Academic issues, writing a dissertation
Major and career counseling
Imposter syndrome
Navigating the educational system with learning differences
Educational trauma
OLDER ADULT Women
Where I come from elders are held with great esteem and respect. They are said to hold a well of virtue and are looked to for their vast and deep wisdom. Japan is a matriarchal culture where the grandmother is the hub of the family. In my work with older women, I seek to honor these traditions in order to help you cope with and integrate the life-changing experiences you will encounter, some of which are listed below:
Spirituality and ancestral wisdom
Developmental life stage tasks and transitions
Loss of family members, partners, and loved ones
Combating ageism and cultural discrimination
Changes in relationships, mental & physical health, and sexuality
Retirement and financial stressors
